Questions, answered straight

Is this site affiliated with or endorsed by the gondola's owners or operators?

No. Above the Sound is an independent planning guide written by a Squamish climbing guide. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the owners or operators of the Sea to Sky Gondola. We do not sell tickets and never process payments — tickets are sold only on the official gondola website.

A word about how some visitors found this page

This site runs small search ads so people planning a trip up the Sound can find a guide's read on it first. If an ad brought you here and you wanted the operator's ticket page, head to seatoskygondola.com — nothing here is for sale.

What if it is foggy at the top?

Then it is foggy, and the ticket is still sold. Check the summit webcam and whether the Chief's summit is clear before you buy. The journal explains the patterns.

When is the quietest time?

First lift of the day, weekday, ideally on an outflow morning. Weekends after eleven are the queue.

Can I hike down instead of riding?

There are established trails, and people do. They are steep, real mountain trails — footwear, water, and daylight planning apply. The gondola also sells a ride-down-only ticket for people who hike up.

Is the bridge scary?

It moves slightly, by design. Most people love it. If heights are a genuine issue, the lodge deck gives you the view without it.
