Planning

The operator sets hours and fares and changes both by season. What does not change is the highway, the parking lot, and the queue curve.

Current hours, fares and any weather closures live on the official site — check it the morning you go, because wind holds happen and the last download of the day matters if you are hiking.

Timed tickets

Book a window and arrive inside it. On summer weekends the late-morning windows are the crush. The first window of the day is the quiet one and, per the conditions journal, usually the clear one too.

Getting there

  • From Vancouver: about an hour north on Highway 99 in normal traffic. Friday afternoons and Sunday returns are not normal traffic.
  • From Whistler: about forty-five minutes south. Watch for rockfall signage after heavy rain; the corridor earns its reputation.
  • Parking: the base lot fills on sunny weekends by late morning. Overflow means a walk. Arrive before ten or after three.

How long to budget

Two hours for the ride, the bridge and the deck. Half a day if you hike any of the summit trails. A full day if you are combining it with the Chief or the backside routes — and if you are, you already know to start early.
